Many of us remember, and miss, Mystery Science Theater 3000, an hysterical show dedicated to our love of bad films. For 197 episodes, from 1989 until 1999, fans of humor and bad movies were treated to some of the best television the medium could offer. Joel Hodgson, creator of ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000,‘ starred in the first 100 episodes. He was followed by Mike Nelson, who was host for the remaining 97 episodes before the clueless suits at USA Network pulled the plug.
Since that time, Joel has kept busy, writing scripts and hosting Cinematic Titanic, a show very much like MST3K, with many of its original cast members as the cast. Mike Nelson has also kept occupied with his own show, called RiffTrax. RiffTrax has been very successful, with several shows becoming very successful Kickstarter projects.

Bring Back MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
Joel himself has chimed in on the power of MST3k has had over the years on the fans. “Ever since MST3K was cancelled, I’ve felt the world is missing something. Or at least, the world in me. When all the ‘pistons were firing,’ I think MST3K offered a pretty good model for how to survive the cheesy movie you sometimes have to live through. If you have a few friends that you think are funny, and who share your worldview, riffing can make the whole thing tolerable. Is it too much to say that MST3K was about friendship?”
Now it’s time to help Joel bring MST3K back. He has launched a Kickstarter project on Nov. 11th, and it has already earned about half of its initial goal of $2 million. I have the feeling that the project will end somewhere in the $7-8 million range. Here’s the breakdown of what Joel hopes to do with this project:
-> At the $2,000,000 mark, they’ll be able to make three new feature length episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
-> At the $3.3 million mark, they will make 6 new MST3K episodes.
-> At the $4.4 million mark, 9 more episodes will be produced.
-> And at $5.5 million, an entire season of MST3K will be produced! So I’m taking the time to ask for your help. When Joel himself wants to bring back MST3K, that can only mean the return of quality television to our homes. Here’s the link to the Kickstarter:

I love MST3K, and many of you do also. This is something that we all need to back, and back in a big way. With your help, we’ll soon hear the melodious voices of Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot picking apart the many bad films that have come out since 1999. It will be glorious.
