The Shift is a refinement of many of the ideas in Dr. Wayne Dyer’s previous books and PBS specials. Its succinct nature and his way of explaining the 7 steps to returning to Spirit become crystal clear once you have read the book and/or seen the film. It’s an amazing accomplishment. One of my favorite quotes was “When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” A life changing book in many ways, this is a real pleasure to read.
I would highly recommend getting the edition of the book that comes with the DVD of the book. Watch the film first, then read the book. I found that the film spoon feeds you the concepts, making them very concrete in your mind by the end. Have a box of tissues handy, even if you’re a guy.

The Shift Book
The focus of the book and film is about just letting go and accepting the good things that happen. This is a course of action rather than competing and allowing your Ego to define who you are. Your Ego is not your friend. It is designed to protect you, but too often it also keeps you from growing as a person.
The late Dr. Dyer has an approach to such heavy subjects that make it seem like a favorite uncle is talking to you after a big meal. The book reveals four major concepts that will change your life once you have embraced them. In no particular order, here they are.
1. We come from Nothingness, and will return to it. We are truly spiritual beings having a temporary human experience.
2. As we grow, our Ego does its best to shape our True Self. We develop beliefs such as
“Who I am is what I have.”
“Who I am is what I do.”
“Who I am is what others think of me.”
These beliefs do not serve us, they debilitate us.
3. We must come to view the False Self as merely the Ego interfering with True Purpose. We begin to move toward a life based on meaning and purpose. Our trust goes to Spirit and the wisdom that created Us.
4. The is a yearning for the shift back to Our authentic self. There are four virtues that make up our original existence: 1. Reverence For All Life, 2. Natural Sincerity, 3. Gentleness and 4. Supportiveness. -
The Shift Movie
As you embrace these concepts, you will begin to shift into these states:
The Shift From Entitlement to Humility.
The Shift From Control to Trust In Yourself, Others And Infinite Intelligence.
The Shift From Attachment to Letting Go.Once you begin to understand and practice these concepts, life will be better in all aspects. Take the time to read The Shift. It’s filled with heavy concepts, but the journey is well worth it.
